That Babe Grew Up to be a Man

by Stan C. Countz

As the year draws to a soggy end
I pause and think of all my friends
Of hot pies and swapping lies
And cards I forgot to send

I think of things I should’ve done
Of things I never did
I think back to when I was young
When I was just a kid

CHORUS
Oh little child, so meek and mild
Your star shines bright and bold
It’s been a while since I’ve smiled
My heart is growing cold
I don’t have much to offer
No silver or fine gold
But what I have I freely give
My heart, my mind, my soul

We all like sheep have gone astray
A Savior King was born this day
The shepherds and the angels sang
As in the manger the savior lay

That babe grew up to be a man
But no one seemed to understand
The manger-born king from Bethlehem
Was heaven's perfect lamb

He healed the sick and raised the dead
Did crazy tricks with fish and bread
We placed a crown of thorns upon his head
He suffered and bled for you and me

He died on that cross at Calvary
Rose from the grave on the third day
To set us free that we might be saved
And reign with Him for all eternity

That babe grew up to be a man
Stretches out his nail-scarred hands
Beckons us to trust in Him
Reject our life of lust and sin
And, like a child, be born again

CHORUS
Oh little child, so meek and mild
Your star shines bright and bold
It’s been a while since I’ve smiled
My heart is growing cold
I don’t have much to offer
No silver or fine gold
But what I have I freely give
My heart, my mind, my soul

CAN'T KEEP GOD IN A BOX

by Stan C. Countz

VERSE 1
Eyes glistening with fatherly pride, He’s all kind, all knowing
Listening, He weeps when we cry, sees us coming and going
Dad’s reading, Mom’s sleeping, baby’s teething
Grampa’s just glad he’s still breathing

CHORUS
Our father isn’t bothered when He hears his children cry
He offers us His living water that never will run dry
This world is growing hotter because the father of lies
Wishes he could stop the clocks; he’s runnin’ out of time
God knows he’s a thief and we’ve believed his lies
So He’s gonna bring relief and cut him down to size
He’s the shepherd, we’re His sheep, He’s the branch, we’re the vine
If His kingdom we seek, we’ll keep our eyes on the prize

VERSE 2
Birds singing in the trees, the buzzing of bumble bees
A man of humble means pleading on his knees
The earth gives birth and breeds
He knows our needs and plants the seeds
He rolls up His sleeves and plays in the leaves
He weeps and He grieves, loves and believes
Knows we’re but dust but trusts no thieves

CHORUS
You may not believe in Him, but He believes in you
Renounce your sin, be born again; each word He speaks is true
With every breath we breathe, a tangled web we weave
But if to Him we cleave, we shall not be moved

If He were at the pond I’m sure He’d be skipping rocks
But would He wink at that blond you think is such a fox?
Would He wave His magic wand and knock off your socks?
To Him we belong but you can’t keep God in a box

With each success we achieve, He’s our greatest cheerleader
Trust in His word and believe ‘cuz He’s a promise keeper
When you’re up against the wall, hit your knees and heed the call
Even if you need to crawl, give your best and give your all

You may not believe in Him, but He believes in you
Renounce your sin, be born again; each word He speaks is true
With every breath we breathe, a tangled web we weave
But if to Him we cleave, we shall not be moved

OUTRO
It can be humbling, but if your world is crumbling
Stop your grumbling and put your feet on the rock
Take heed and take stock, heed the call when He knocks
'Cuz you can’t keep God in a box even if you tried
Our Father isn’t bothered when He hears His children cry
He offers us His living water that never will run dry
This world is growing hotter because the father of lies
Wishes he could stop the clocks; he’s runnin’ out of time
God knows he’s a thief and we’ve believed his lies
But our father’s gonna slaughter him and cut him down to size
'Cuz you can’t keep God in a box, even if you tried
